About Us

Our Vision: To be the leading club in the NPL

Club History

Initially established as Woden-Weston Football Club (17 Nov 2014), West Canberra Wanderers Football Club (WCW) is the pre-eminent NPL focussed club in southern and western Canberra. WCW, or colloquially known as Wanderers, fields teams in all four divisions of the NPL: Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Boys and Junior Girls. Wanderers provides a pathway for talented players of the region to participate in the ‘best of the best’ pillar of football.

The then Woden-Weston Football Club was established as an independent entity seeking entry to the NPL – ACT Division for 2015. Leaders of local community clubs (Weston-Molonglo Football Club, Woden Valley Soccer Club and Woden Valley Football Club)  agreed that meeting and exceeding the licence criteria required a unified regional approach. Accordingly, a joint bid was developed to pool all available resources and give the best possible service to the community of west Canberra at the NPL level.

The initial crest of the Club reflected the joint nature of the application through adopting the colours of Weston Molonglo (black and white) and Woden Valley (red and blue).   The magpie within the crest is a familiar songbird of the western Canberra region well known for an attacking intent!

During the pandemic and inevitable lockdown across Australia in 2020, the Club used the opportunity to revitalise structures, organisation, purpose, philosophy, crest and name. Accordingly, West Canberra Wanderers Football Club was incorporated 22 Sep 2020 and continued to target NPL football as the raison d'etre of the Club.
